56 Leonard

The architect partners Herzog & de Meuron have created some of the most high profile structures in the late 20th and early 21st century. Beijing's Bird Nest Stadium, the Allianz Arena in Munich, and Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern in London are just a few of their famed creations. The 56 Leonard Project is a residential project for the Tribeca district in Manhattan. The aesthetic is based on the idea of individual glass houses being "haphazardly" stacked on top of one another. Of course Herzog & de Meuron would never consciously design something haphazardly and the well planned cascade of glass comes off as stunning. A sculptural base by the artist Anish Kapoor (famous for his "bean" sculpture Cloud Gate in Chicago's Millennium Park) is an unexpected touch that makes this project that much more impressive.

The website for 56 Leonard uses white space well. The type and graphic elements play tribute to the building's design, and the architectural renderings are quite beautiful.
